Oak It Up

Reading the blog The Blooming Hydrangea inspired today's post.  Ange was calling out to her readers with oak details.  Well, here I am.  I too was not a personal fan of oak cabinets, trim, etc. but have grown fond of mine and learned to appreciate them.  Hope my decor makes Ange feel better about the oak in her new kitchen!

Here are some shots of oak in my home.

When we first bought our new home I too had thoughts of painting the wood white.  We did just that in our condo and I loved it's look.  I soon found it is very common to find oak details in bungalows.  One of my favorite design books I bought right after buying our home is Updating Classic America Bungalows.  The pictures throughout show the beauty of wood and oak.  I loved looking at all the details and decor styled around the warm shades of wood.  Looking through pictures of Chicago bungalows also proved to me I should leave my oak alone and embrace it.  Which is exactly what I did!

Here's to oak and other homeowners who've oak'd it up!

Lastly, some shots I took of a home we toured in the Portage Park neighborhood before our house hunting officially began.

I'd love to hear what you think!

  1. Jen,
Well thank you for linking up and doing this post just for me! Your oak is beautiful, love the dark counter tops with the oak cabinets in your kitchen! Your doors are also really nice with the panels on them. We will see what happens with our oak, stay tuned! :)

  2. Thanks Ange. I am glad you liked. Can't wait to read about what you decide to do!

Thanks for your comment. Have a LOVely day!!!
