The Spotlight: Give 2 The Troops

My LOVely sister shared with me how she gave back to those who give all.

Our troops.

She sent over a care package filled with goodies and participated in Give 2 The Troops.

Check out their site to read all about it.  Such an amazing story.  Since 2002, Give 2 The Troops has supported about 1 million US troops with care packages and letters.  The men and women serving our country sacrifice so much for us and this is such a simple way we can all show our appreciation.

Be Our Guest, Be Our Guest!

OK, so The Mr. is not thrilled but we have a guest room.  Too bad :)

In our basement we have a bedroom that had been planned as a work room.  Well, that is why The Mr. is not happy.  I made it into our guest room.

This gives our company a place to stay away from our crazy family and us away from them.  Right next door is a full bathroom so it's a nice little retreat.

Now, this room was not an easy task.  Well, what in this house was?

It was the bedroom of a teenager and destroyed.  Carpeting awful and full of stains.  Closet doors all scuffed up and not working.  Walls disgusting.

Off I went making it nice and perty.

New carpet, check.  New paint, check.  Decor all from thrifting or stuff already owned, check.  And now it looks 110% better.

Here is how it looked.

This is how it looks today.

Oh and furniture was Bub's crib set.  We bought the convertible set and since we bought Bub a new set it worked out great for this room.  Just had to get a mattress.

When will you be staying?

It's A Trunk

A vintage thrift store found trunk.

But such a beauty!

From this...

It needed a good ol' cleaning.  I used a wet cloth and wiped it down for a while.

Took out 90% of that red/black inside covering.  So glad it came out easily.

Used some of this...

Post card paper from Paper Source.

Old trunk transformed into this...

Did I tell you how much fun I had at the wedding too?

A TON!!!

Hello Fall!

In Chicago today sure feels like a fall day.  It may not officially be here but we can start enjoying the new upcoming season.

60 degree temps.

I even see some trees with a little yellow in their leaves.  Perhaps the beginning
of them turning.

Here are my thoughts of autumn time.

Fall tones for clothes.

Cozy sweaters.

Jeans.  And flare is back :)

Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Autumn decor.

Halloween and trick or treating!

Apple picking.

Visit a pumpkin patch.

If you are looking for some fall time fun you really should check out the Kuipers Family Farm.  They are in Maple Park, IL 12 miles west of Geneva.

I have never been but highly considering to go this year.  They have apple picking, pumpkin patch, hayrides, corn maze, animals and soooo much more.  It really looks like a fun place to go.

Have yourself a happy "fall" day!

Wedding Bells

My friend's wedding was this past Sunday.  It was AMAZING!

The bride was gorgeous (dress was so beautiful), groom handsome and party
a TON of fun!

I LOVed how the decor came out.  The bride told me it came out better than she could of imagined.  Lucky for me she has great taste and wanted to decorate in a design I LOVe.

I thought I did a "good" job too but I had some critiques for myself.  As they say we are our own worst judge but it's those judgements that will make me a better decorator.  I will save them to myself, though...

Hope you're impressed.  Please let me know what you think!  Good and bad!

First up is a handmade sign showing the wedding guests the way to the celebration.

The bride made handmade guest cards for the escort table.  They came out LOVely.  Hand stamped, hand written and all placed in their own wine cork that the bride and groom have been saving since their story started.  I LOVed that they were personal and had special meaning.

The bride is a wedding photographer by trade.  We thought it would be special to showcase vintage wedding photos of couples from the past.  They were casually placed throughout but featured here on an upcycled window.

Ball jars and candles were elegantly laid along the ledge of the fireplace.

Special seats for the bride and groom.

Head table arranged for conversation amongt members of the bride and groom's family.  Vintage finds spread aside floral arrangements and candles.  The bride's handmade name cards were placed on the head table for their family and laid in saved
champaign corks.

Personal menus for each guest were another handmade item of the bride.

Table numbers were made of numbered pieces of wood, delicately spray painted in pink and sanded to give a shabby apprearance.

All tables were covered with a vintage inspired piece of lace.  Guest tables adorned with a vintage camera each special to the bride and eclectic candles all different in style.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be a part of your special day!

Congrats to you both!
