Yummy Cupcakes

Cupcake anyone?

For Bub's birthday party I decided on not buying cake and instead made some yummy cupcakes.  I was so pleased how they turned out and super excited to use my new cake stand and other platters I found thrifting.

While I like baking things I am not an avid baker and never do things from scratch.  So, I decided to make chocolate cupcakes from Betty Croker and Sandra Lee's blushing cupcakes.

Here they are from start to finish and some other pics from Bub's party.

Bon appetit!

Happy Memorial Day!

Hi All!  Hope you are having a fun Memorial Day!  Our family's has been perfect.  We made it out to the neighborhood parade, which was it's 98th.  We were very surprised to hear that and it made us even happier that we made Norwood Park our home.

Here we are eagerly awaiting the parade to make it our way!

Off the parade goes!

Bub could not wait until they started tossing out the candy.  She made sure to get herself a lollipop!

We finally made it back home to hang out and closed our day making popsicles.

Happy Memorial Day and thank you to ALL our heroes and troops!

ORK Posters - Have to check them out!

Happy Saturday!

I am so excited about my new picture I bought as art for our basement.  While in Bucktown a couple weeks ago I spotted a Chicago poster I fell in love with.  As soon as I got home I did a google search to find out more about it.  Voila, I found it was made by ORK posters.  So, I snagged myself one.  Bought a frame from IKEA, had the matting customized by Michaels and now it is all ready to be hung.  Total for everything was $67 and some change.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Here is the one I bought.

Here in mine framed.

Here are some other great Chicago posters.  They sell other cities too if you are interested.

Happy 3rd birthday to my little Bub!

Happy birthday to you.  Happy birthday to you.  Happy birthday dear Bub, happy birthday to you!

I cannot believe Katie is three today!  Where has this time gone?  My mom was right and it really does fly by!  Katie is three and already such a little lady.  She is so smart and such a blast to be around.  Except for when she goes crazy and cries for everything in sight.  I did say she is three, remember.

Really, though, it is so crazy how each year is so different.  The first year was a time of adjustment and getting our feet wet. Year two was filled with chaos and for me all about trying to learn about patience.  I wonder what will year three be like for us.  I am sure it will be as great as the rest!

My wonderful friend, Paulina took Katie's 3rd birthday pics for us.  She is an amazing photographer and did such a great job capturing Katie and helping us to preserve these special times with our little princess.  Thank you, Paulina and we truly appreciate all you do for us.  If you are interested in getting info from Paulina send me a message and I will kindly help you get in touch.

Here are some more great shots from the day.

Happy birthday to my bubba-boo!

In Love With...Cake Stands

I am getting prepared for Bub's 3rd birthday party this weekend.  For her cake I am going to be making cupcakes.  When browsing the www for ideas, I loved seeing the cupcakes displayed so nicely on cake stands.  My fondness grew for an item I never really thought about.  So, the hunt began and the ideas continued swirling.

I have been roaming around different thrift stores over the past couple weeks.  Today, I finally found a stand worth getting.  This treasure cost me a whopping $4.80 and is gorgeous.  Wasn't thinking about getting one in glass but when I saw it I fell in love!  I plan on trying to find more but I am really interested in attempting to make my own.  A DIY project looming for my future.

Hope you enjoy my treasure as much as I do!

Here are some of the inspiration pieces I found on the web.

These DIY stands are just gorgeous and really seem so simple!

Bub & Her Big Girl Bed

It's official.  The Mr. and I have lost more freedom.  We moved the crib out and the big girl bed in.  Lucky for us, Bub loves it and has been doing great.  She caught on real fast.  Minus the times she comes creeping into our room...It has been a few weeks from when we put it in and since then I've been busy working on all the little details throughout the room.  Those to be shared later.

Bub had a convertible set but we'd been debating for weeks about the color and wishing we had bought a white set.  It also doesn't help that we get PB Kids and Land of Nod catalogs weekly dangling the girls' bedroom sets all in white.  So, the decision was made to get a new one.  We made sure to get a set though that will last our Bub a very long time.

And off we went!  We took our time looking around and finally decided on the full size Catalina bed and tall drawer chest from PBK.  The bed cost us $624 and dresser $799, including delivery.  We bought a mattress from PBK too but that was out of laziness and not wanting to bounce around looking for a deal.  Mattress cost us $449.  I assure you, though, that you can find the same mattress for much cheaper.

For the bedding we stuck with PBK and went with the Lily quilted bedding and Brianna sheeting.  To add a little whimsy we also got the Joy owl plush pillow.  All so cute together!  Yes, the bedding is more on the expensive side but I couldn't help myself.  To help with the cost we used the rewards we got from paying for the set on our PB card.  If you are looking for a cheaper option Target has some great sets that are very similar to those sold at PBK.

Here it is.  What do you think?

Bub loving it and actually posing for me! (So sorry for the grainy pics...sigh.)

For more inspiration here are some other sets and girls' rooms that I was in love with.
